Swede Lergard The Man To Beat In FBD Milk Ras. Team Bianchi Nordic, one of the most powerful cycling teams in Scandinavia, will be in the line-up when the FBD MILK RAS 8 Day International cycle race gets underway from the GPO on Sunday 23rd.May. The team's Directeur Sportif, Tommy Prim, former professional and twice second in the Gior D'Italia, has confirmed to race organiser, Dermot Dignam, that 24 year old Tobias Lergard will attempt to go one better than last year when he lost out to the more experienced Briton, Chris Newton, by a mere five seconds. The team includes fellow Swedes, Jonas Holmkvist and Petter Renang, Finland's Kimmo Kananen and Glenn Bak of Denmark. In last year's race Team Bianchi, drawn from Sweden only, made a huge impact on the race winning two stages, the award for leading international team and Lergard's tremendous performance in the overall general classification. This year the team is bound to be considerable strengthened by the inclusion of riders from other Scandinavian countries. Although Prim has named the Dane, Glenn Bak as team leader it is likely the leading contenders in the ten other international teams in the race will have to watch Lergard and Jonas Holmkvisy more closely. At 21 years of age Holmkvist last year won the longest stage of the RAS to Clifden and also the mountainous stage from Buncrana to Donegal. The German pro team, ComNet Senges and NEW York's Team CRCA/Sakonnet Technology have already declared for the big Irish international event which will have thrilling finishes in Trim, Oranmore, Charleville, Cahirciveen, Millstreet, the mountain top finish on Seskin Hill outside Carrick-On-Suir, Tullow and the grand finale in the Phoenix Park on Sunday 30th.
