FBD Milk Ras Champion Out Of This Year's Race.

FBD MILK RAS champion, Briton Chris Newton, will not be defending his title when the 8 day international cycle race gets underway from the GPO on Sunday 23rd. May. Former World Points Champion Newton will be part of the powerful British squad taking part in the World Track Championships in Melbourne at the end of May effectively ruling him out of the big Irish event.

As a result of Newton's absence Race Organiser, Dermot Dignam, has agreed with GB National Road Team Manager, John Herety, that Britain will be represented in this year's race by the up and coming young riders in the under 23 category. With two wins in the FBD Milk Ras in the past three years British cycling will be looking to one of these young stars to successfully defend Newton's title.

The rest of the international line-up is expected to be announced in the coming weeks and is sure to include a mixed professional, national and regional teams. The 1000 kilometres course for the race includes 30 major mountain climbs including a stage-end mountain top finish on Seskin Hill in Carrick-On-Suir. Trilling stage finishes are also on line for Trim, Oranmore, Charleville, Cahirciveen, Millstreet, Tullow and the final finish in the Phoenix Park on Sunday 30th.May
