By Press Release 12-02-2004
Feb 12, 2004

0ne of the toughest and most crucial stages in this year's FBD MILK RAS will take place on Saturday 29th May in the county of Carlow. Although the county is not renowned for mountainous terrain it will feature strongly in the penultimate stage of the gruelling international cycle race. Three first category climbs, The Heights, Corrabutt Gap and Mount Leinster, equal to the most severe climbs anywhere in the country, and all in County Carlow, will play a huge part in the final destination of overall honours when the race finishes in the Phoenix Park the following day.

In recognition of the part the county has played in previous Rasanna and the enthusiasm and interest in this year's race Carlow Historical and Archaeological Society will host a lecture and slide show on the history of the race in the Parish  Centre in Leighlinbridge next Wednesday 18th. February. Tom Daly, author of the recently published much acclaimed 50 years history of the race, will give the lecture.

Leighlinbridge is the birthplace of the mother of Joe Christle, founder and for many years Director of the Ras.
