FBD Insurance Rás Gets All - Clear Results

Tests for the use of prohibited substances carried out during the recent FBD Insurance RÁS 8 Day International Cycle Race have all been declared negative. The thirty-two anti-doping tests carried out by the world controlling body, Union Cycliste Internationale, involved riders from most of the nine countries that competed in the race. Stage winners, race leaders on the day and riders selected at random were tested.

Professional teams from Norway, Poland, Australia, Germany, Britain, Canada, USA and Belgium/Ireland participated with the Irish national team, British regional and Irish county teams.

Announcing the results Race Organiser, Dermot Dignam, complimented the riders for a keenly contested, sporting race.

The race is sponsored by FBD Insurance and is included on the Union Cycliste Internationale Continental Calendar.

Behind The Scenes At The FBD Insurance Rás
Running the FBD Insurance RÁS each year is a huge task, a test of organisation, careful planning and the cooperation of all the personnel involved with the race. Since the early 1970s Dermot Dignam has been directly involved in this role, working initially on a committee running the race and then taking over as sole race director in 1979. More>>

Lineup Of Irish Continenral Team Confirmed
With less than a week to go until the start of the FBD Insurance RÁS, the lineup of the final Continental/Professional team to take part in this year’s race has been confirmed.
The highly promising Murphy & Gunn / Newlyn Group team has shown the benefits of their expansion, being in dominant form all season and taking several important victories. The team for the FBD Insurance RÁS will be led by two very experienced riders, 1997 race victor Andrew Roche and Paul Healion. More>>

Nine Countries To Contest FBD Insurance Rás
A star-studded field of 150 riders from Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Canada, Australia, Poland, Norway, Britain and the USA will face the starter when the FBD INSURANCE RÁS 8 Day International Cycle Race gets underway from Tallaght in south Dublin next Sunday, 21st May. Winner in 2003 and again last year Briton Chris Newton will lead the experienced British professional team, Recycling.co.uk in defence of his title, while Irish professional rider, Mayo man David O’Loughlin, home from racing in the USA, will spearhead the Irish national Grant Thornton team. Belgian And German Proffessional Teams For FBD Insurance Rás
With the start of this year’s FBD Insurance RÁS now just over one week away two more professional teams, from Germany and Belgium, have announced they are to join Poland, Norway, Canada, USA, Australia and Britain in providing the foreign opposition to the Irish national team and sixteen county teams when the big 8 day race gets under from Dublin on Sunday 21st May. Tallaght Start For FBD Insurance Rás
Next Sunday week the ancient village of Tallaght, nestled in the foothills of the Dublin mountains, will reverberate to all the excitement, colour and pageantry of a major, modern-day, international event when the Ceremonial Start of this year’s FBD Insurance RÁS takes place outside the Dominican Church at 12 o clock.

In a major break with the traditional start from the GPO over 140 racing cyclists from nine countries will parade up Main Street led by the Tallaght Youth Band. Following a ten minute stop the race will set off on the first of eight days of gruelling racing with stage finishes in Enniscorthy, Cobh, An Daingean, Listowel, An Cheathru Rua, Westport, Clara, with the finish in Skerries on Sunday 28th May.
